Review of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) by Christopher S — 07 Apr 2012
Making films from books has always been a tricky proposition. For every film adaptation that hits it big such as "Jaws" "Lord of the Rings" ,"The Silence of the Lambs" and of course the Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games Phenomenon but there are several that fail to work or are downright disasters such as "The Bonfire of the Vanities".
In the film "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", the late Douglas Adams first book in his classic series has finally arrived on the big screen after many delays getting started. Despite a wonderful cast that includes Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Zooey Deschanel, Mos Def, John Malkovich and Bill Nighy, plus voice work from Alan Rickman, Helen Mirren and Stephen Fry.
Hitchhikers falls flat and never really establishes anything other then a failed attempt to try and cram as much wacky shit onto the screen. What could have been a brilliant picture becomes a disjointed mess.
Still due to the strong acting of everyone involved and the wonderful set design and can't give it anything lower then a 2 star effort.
