Review of The Hitcher (1986) by Mateusz Z — 31 Jul 2007
This cult action movie that influenced most films of the genre since, seems to have aged surprisingly well. The action sequences still hold the viewer on the edge of his sit, the effects are still impressive and the gore is far more gorier than nowadays. However, what really makes this movie special, is Rutger Hauer's mysterious hitcher, who avoids every possible stereotype of a movie baddie, whilst adding a significant metaphysical flavour to the entire story. And he's ice cool...
Howell keeps up with Hauer surprisingly well, which makes one wonder what happened to this promising actor. If only you are prepared to close an eye to some 80s naivety, this watch will be pure pleasure.
