Review of The Hitcher (1986) by Mark W — 06 May 2011
Superbly tense thriller, largely thanks to Hauer's incredibly menacing turn as Ryder but also because of the stunningly composed landscape shots that form the psychogeographic arena in which the protagonist morphs from a stuttering coward into Mad Max.
Raises itself above the herd largely due to this psychological depth which is a refreshing change from the Manichean proceedings that drag so many thrillers into farce.
