This childhood 80's favorite of mine still manages to hold up pretty well. There's nothing terribly dated about it. It's tight, action-packed, frightening with effective performances. Hauer is perfectly cast as the villain.
(Why didn't someone ever make a movie with him and Christopher Walken together?) Howell's performance is also very natural and JJ Leigh is strong, cute and very likable. All these elements help make The Hitcher a first-rate action/horror thriller.
