Review of The Hitcher (1986) by Your Gay Boyfriend — 04 Nov 2013
The story of an unlucky man picking up the wrong hitchhiker. It's semithrilling and a bit scary, but it's goes in a wrong direction at some point and continue that way. I get that this is dreamy stuff, but there is too much of it. The film feel so wide and open since it's dreamy and hazy in a way, but it feels too attached to it's plan - let the hunter catch his prey. The hitcher is constantly hunting the young driver and causes terror and fear. It works in "Funny Games", but not here, while driving half the country. Unrealistic plot twists kills the fun since there are to many of them. I can't take it seriously and I like to take my thrillers seriously.
Unintentional funny moments, some continous errors and predictible stuff is not making it any better. Neat cinematography and a bad ass villain helps, but does not save the experience.
3,5 out of 10 french fries.
