Review of The Hitch-Hiker (1953) by Matthew L — 12 Aug 2008
I like to think of this film as a noir Brokeback Mountain. Two "middle-class American homebodies" lie to their wives to go "fishing" in Mexico? Uh huh. This is why neither can leave the other - because they're in love.
I also like that the Spanish-language bits aren't subtitled. I think it might displace spectators in various ways according to how much Spanish they understand. (Do people who don't speak any Spanish identify with the killer in this capacity?) Also, Myers' eye is creepy cool.
