Review of The Hills Have Eyes (1977) by Tristan P — 30 May 2008
Yet another vastly overrated film from Wes Craven, who in my opinion has never done anything that was better than average (this and the first NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET are probably his best films). THE HILLS HAVE EYES is neither frightening nor particulary exciting. The cannibals come across more as pathetic (esp. Michael Berryman, who is a nice guy and adept at doing comedy) than threatening. At least from a technical standpoint, Craven's direction is a lot better here than on his awful LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT.
Skip this and watch Alexandre Aja's remake instead.
