Review of The Hills Have Eyes (1977) by Michael T — 25 Jan 2009
Just as Wes Craven based THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT on Bergman's THE VIRGIN SPRING, this film is based on a historical Scottish clan who waylaid and even canibalized travellers in a remote section of the Highlands before being captured and executed by agents of the Scottish crown in fuedal times.
The story is updated to modern times (1977) and a family in a motorhome is attacked by a band of inbred offspring of a desert rat who got too close to an A-Bomb test in the 1950s. Great explotation film, but like most 1970s horror films it is very violent.
