Review of The Heiress (1949) by Keenan S — 12 Oct 2012
The Heiress is the greatest romance film you never saw. Despite considered a classic in the few film circles that know about, and being selected for preservation, very few people have actually seen this sublime film.
Olivia de Havilland gives a top notch performance as a naive woman who goes from being happy and upbeat and eventually becomes a stronger woman whose soul has been crushed by her father and lover. This film is not cheery, and features one of the most depressing endings I've ever seen.
This film lays out the harsh realities of falling in love and being brokenhearted, and thanks to its convincing performances, it is a great film that is not to be missed. This is easily one of the all-time best romance films I've ever seen.
