Review of The Heiress (1949) by Jade Z — 12 Aug 2013
Terrific film but I disagree with those that credit Olivia De Havilland as having the great performance in the film.
In fact this film is totally carried by Ralph Richardson in an oscar worthy performance.
Clift is more than adequate in his role as the handsome cad.
And perhaps it requires answering the question some have problems with...so here goes...NO Morris DOES NOT love Catherine and he never does ...even while banging at the door in the last scene.
And NO it is NOT BELIEVABLE that Catherine could turn into the woman she does by the end of the picture.
In fact Monty while filming this picture was in awe of Richardson's acting but he felt de Havilland was only phoning it in reading words.
So yes it is a fine picture thanks to Richardson and the writing and the acting .
So long as you dont make the mistake of viewing my comments in any other way:).
