Review of The Heat (2013) by Jonathan B — 06 Sep 2014
Despite all the attention paid to there being two females in the starring roles for a change, The Heat is very much a routine buddy cop action-comedy. It sticks closely to the tried and true, opting to instead depend almost entirely on the pairing of Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, and for the most part it gets away with it.
It is fun and has some laughs, as well as an interesting string of cameos, but is also far too long and the plot meanders quite a bit as a result. The Heat is incredibly dump, for sure, yet I never felt like it blatantly went out of its way to insult my intelligence, either, so I guess it comes out slightly on the positive side in the end.
