Review of The Heartbreak Kid (2007) by Johnny T — 07 Mar 2011
This movie's biggest flaw is its obvious attempts to re-create the surprise vulgarity and bittersweet content of There's Something About Mary. Ben Stiller still provides the laughs through his physical humor and his ability to perfectly portray a man mentally breaking down. In spite of the lack of heart, you will find the laughs, no denying that. Heartbreak Kid is funny, but its not an instant classic, nor is it a type of movie to take a date to. Uproarious romp, grounded in believable if gleefully implausible human behavior, is a model of comic timing. Though not as engaging as Knocked Up, there is enough humor to keeps us entertained.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theater or buy an ex rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own.
