Review of The Heartbreak Kid (1972) by Dan F — 21 Jul 2010
LOVED this film: while I did enjoy the 2007 remake as a vaguely amusing bit of fun, this is a fantastically personal and intimate portrait of a man who doesn't know what he wants, and to me had quite a lot in common with The Graduate, although for some reason I preferred this film.
Charles Grodin was excellent, as were Jeannie Berlin and Eddie Albert, and Cybill Shepherd used her limited abilities to good effect (i.e. she was very hot back then and her woodenness suited the role).
Neil Simon's dialogue among his best.
