As sick as may sound...I love this movie. Many foreign filmmakers try to critique or comment on Americans/America is, but, as an American, I can safely say it almost always becomes a generalization based on cliche ideas from media, our films, and stereotypes of what they "think" America is about.

..never seeming to bother to delve beyond surfaces (see Von Trier's Dogville and Manderlay). In fairness, we often do a less than stellar job ourselves, but there is such a raw honestly in this film and something purely American in its details.

I know it is based on an American novel, but the film is Asia Argento's vision. Never willing to pull punches, I applaud her exploration of the dark and seedy underbelly of the "American family" and the sickness that begets sickness.

Not for the squeamish, this is an explotation film that is the white trash equivalent of Precious...with worse human beings and outcomes. If that is possible.
