Review of The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008) by Rosemarie S — 04 Mar 2009
So essentially this movie is about a squinty eyed 17 year old whose soul has been sold to Satan in exchange for 17 years of life. And, suprise suprise, her parents made this decision for her. Aww shucks.
So Molly spends the whole movie pouting about having been stabbed by her mother as a tween and pouting because her Dad is over-protective and pouting because the mean girl at school is jealous of her because she flirts with her high school's version of Zac Efron.
I really think this movie should just be called Satanic High School Musical, because it's pretty much a teen movie without singing of any sort. I think one of the downfalls of this movie is the constant visions Molly has of her mother escaping the mental asylum and coming after her.
These visions happen so frequently that by the time her mother actually does escape from the asylum (don't tell me you didn't see it coming) you just dismiss it as another fantasy sequence and then suffer from mild suprise when you realize that this time, the mother's escape if FOR REALS! Yawn, What a crappy ending too.
