Review of The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) by James F — 10 Apr 2010
Wow, this film was pretty bad.
It desperately wants to follow in the vein of other "based on real life" efforts like The Exorcist or the original Amityville and it fails spectacularly. The story makes no real sense, the characters are a complete bunch of idiots, these actors cannot in fact, act at all and the sub plots add nothing to this dull and vapid, totally unscary movie.
There are however, some important things that I learnt in this movie. *Spoilers* - please don't feel they will ruin your enjoyment of the film however as there is no enjoyment to be had in it in the first place.
1. If you are trying to choose a bedroom to sleep in your new house, then why not go for the basement that's got a huge set of locked doors it, especially if you are a teenager and suffering from a serious illness and there are noises coming from it and it keeps featuring in your nightmares.
2. If your mother knows all along that the locked room is actually an old funeral parlour and lets you sleep down there anyway, without telling you, she probably isn't the best parent in the world.
3. That the teenage detectives in this film, with little or no clues to work with, are better than any appearing in Scooby Doo.
4. That if you are a priest, its fine to remove body parts from a murdered boy in a possessed house and not inform the police that you've done so.
5. You can stash bodies in walls for well over 50 or 60 years and they don't decompose at all, on the contrary, they look as fresh as the day died.
6. That I am in fact an idiot for sitting through this movie.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that this film is a complete and utter piece of crap and I owe anyone who has taken the time to read this review to recommend that you to stay away from it. A total and utter waste of 2 hours.
