Review of The Haunting (1999) by Carlie S — 19 Dec 2012
A major disappointment. Until the end of the first night at Hill House, the film is excellent, as it captures the spirit and flavor of the original novel by Shirley Jackson and the script is quite faithful to the story.
It's when the plot stops being faithful to the novel that the film turns into complete and utter crap, as the special effects absolutely overwhelm the movie and both the characters and the story become secondary to the visual effects.
Ignore this film and watch the original instead.
