Review of The Haunting (1963) by Alex D — 02 Jan 2008
Perhaps the greatest ghost film ever made is this brooding psychological thriller based upon Shirley Jackson's classic novel 'The Haunting of Hill House'. Nicely directed with tremendous atmosphere by the late great Robert Wise.
Terrific cast makes the movie even stronger - Julie Harris is especially wonderful as her meek, tortured character. An intelligent and unforgettable classic. Avoid the lame 1999 remake.
