Review of The Haunting (1963) by Whitney S — 09 Mar 2008
This was my introduction to horror films at the impressionable age of 10 or 11, and IMO nothing has surpassed it since (except perhaps 28 Days later... but that had a hopeful ending, so nevermind) Anyways.
Even the Hitchcock I've seen, while suspenseful and sometimes scary, was never as horrifying as this. I've been patiently waiting for Hollywood to remember that truly good horror/suspense lies in story-telling and psychology.
.. NOT a hideous monster/serial killer murdering someone in a fountain of blood. Still waiting. Anyone?
