Review of The Haunting (1963) by Jérôme V — 16 Aug 2009
It's a blessing for us, Horror Lover, that between West Side Story and The Sound of Music, Robert Wise found the time (and money) to return to his sources with this magnificent ghost story (that actuelly frighten!), reminiscent of his days under Val Lewton's patronage.
Making suggestion such an art-form is no small feats, but Wise, using wide and bizarre camera's angle, strange sounds and a very effective scenarion about madness and inner conflict offer us one of the best of this sub-genre decade before Sixth Sense.
Great cast, great characters, great cinematography and a house that Lovecraft would love to describe and you got one of those perfect horror classic! Awesome and a true masterpiece of the genre.
