Review of The Haunting (1963) by Kevin R — 14 Oct 2012
The greatest haunted house horror movie of all time bar none. Martin Scorsese didn't regard this movie ever so highly for nothing.
It is perfect in every sense, from the masterful directing by Robert Wise, top-notch camera work, and magnificent acting by Julie Harris. Add to the fact we saw completely nothing from the start to the end only strengthen this move plus points (not that there are minus points).
The hill house itself was a perfect setting for the story. The bending door scene was nice, the noises in the wall was tense, the stair scene was dramatic, and the ceiling scene almost gave me a heart attack! The ending is perhaps the most perfect ending to a haunted house horror movie.
100% recommended.
