Review of The Hateful Eight (2015) by Shane F — 21 Oct 2016
A chilling insight into the heart of what divides America. Tarantino showcases some nuanced and real characters, each revealing something of the dark underbelly of America. Set shortly after the Civil War this slow-burning epic captivates for every minute of its almost 3 hours.
Quite a feat given most of it takes place inside a stage-coach or a freezing cabin. The usual Tarantino "splashes" of excess aside, I really enjoyed this film. Stunning performances from Kurt Russell, Jason Leigh and Sam L.
Jackson steal your attention this absorbing tale. Many of Tarantino's favourites appear from actors, to situations to requisite litres of splattering blood. No wonder Obama write him a letter after the movie!
