Review of The Hateful Eight (2015) by Yosemite — 06 Jan 2016
I rated this film a 3 last night after seeing it. After further consideration, its a 2. A good film should have entertainment value , be thought provoking , contain a good plot and solid acting. This one had a good plot and solid acting but not enough of either to offset the basic fact thats its just not entertaining.
Like watching an autopsy ! Tarantino's formula for dialogue worked in Pulp Fiction ( do you know what they call a Big Mac in France ; I'm going to get medevil on him ). It also entertained in Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown.
I have not seen Kill Bill or Basterds. It does not serve as well in this movie. Creative guys like Tarantino develop a cult following and they want to expand on that creativity. They lose track of the reality that movie making is a commercial enterprise.
Take away those viewers (and critics ) that rated this movie favorably JUST BECAUSE it was a QT film and you have a whole bunch of movie goers that wish they had their $10 back.
