Review of The Hateful Eight (2015) by Alton B — 20 Apr 2016

The film takes place in the snowy mountains of Wyoming, sometime after the Civil War. Major Marquis Warren (Jackson) hitches a ride with John "The Hangman" Ruth (Russell) and his prisoner, Daisy Domergue (Leigh) after a raging cuts his journey short. The three take shelter finds shelter in a cabin entitled "Minnie's Haberdashery," where they meet five unknown gentlemen inside. Sheriff Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), Senior Bob (Demián Bichir), Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), Joe Gage (Michael Madsen), and General Sandy Smithers (Bruce Dern) all gather inside; all calm with little information. However, the eight of them will soon find out they all a deadly connection.

This movie was a brilliant piece of film that I've seen in awhile. The cast was remarkable, the set looked straight out of a Clint Eastwood movie, and the plot kept you guessing until the very end. After watching it several times, I'm still shocked about the ending. Tarantino still knows how to confuse an entire theatre full of peoples, but still be able to catch the attention and interest. However, some may argue that the film was to gory or the N word was overplayed. The film takes place after the Civil War; so language wise, I think it's wasn't as bad as it could be. If this picture was based in the 1990's or even nowadays, then I could understand if it's a bit too much. The comment about how gory it was, however, that's how Tarantino films are. You're not a true Tarantino fan if you don't like a lot of blood. His style is for the mass and you don't have to enjoy if you don't like watching his work. Above all, I give this movie 4/5 stars and would love seeing it again.
