Review of The Hate U Give (2018) by Simon G — 02 Jan 2019
His movie was superb. This movie had many great parts. First of all, this movie was written amazingly. The story was great, and there werenâ(TM)t any plot holes. The story did a great job of illustrating the true struggles of black people.
The story also was good at keeping it not black and white, and the characters all had more than one emotion. The characters were written so it replicated the real world, with white and black people not all being on the side that one might think they would be on.
Secondly, the actors all did great. They portrayed their characters so well, they seemed real. From Anthony Mackie as the tough gang leader, to Russel Hornsby as a tough father with a heart of gold, the joyful little Sakani, and of course Amanda Stenberg with the fierce, smart, and daring Starr.
Action-wise, this movie was pretty violent, but the protests and riots were filmed very well. Plus the action on screen was similar to the real world. This movie was also very empowering, and it can make you feel like you want to get up and fight for change immediately.
