Review of The Hangover Part II (2011) by Hector C — 06 Jan 2013

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis are out on the lash again in this sequel that is, wellâ?¦ exactly the same as the other one. First off, what are the chances of getting hammered that you cannot remember the night beforeâ??s events, twice? Erm, I think theyâ??re pretty darn slim. Secondly, what are the chances of getting mashed that you cannot remember why there is an animal in your bedroom? And thirdly, what are the chances of getting wrecked that you cannot remember where someone has been misplaced. Slim.

In fact the chances of The Hangover Part II being a success were, well slim. You see the whole thing has just been recycled from its predecessor, with the only change being more raunchy, controversial and outrageous. This time theyâ??re in Bangkok, which Iâ??m sure has only been chosen because you can make numerous penis related jokes, and its Stuâ??s wedding. Initially, they donâ??t invite Alan (Galifianakis), and initially Stu wants his stag do to be brunch.

But Stu agrees to have one beer on the beach a few days before the wedding, and things go awry. The next thing they know, theyâ??re in Bangkok, which is miles away from the resort the wedding was taking place at, with the Chinese fella from the first one and Stuâ??s brother-in-law-to-be missing. And thereâ??s a monkey in the room.

Todd Phillips mind: Remove tiger from the equation, and add a drug dealing monkey that smokes and will cause a lot of controversy with animal rights groups; and instead of the groom going missing, make it the groomâ??s fiancà (C)â??s brother that goes missing.

The whole thing is a great big joke! The whole film is a complete copy, and the stupidity of it happening again is ridiculous. But it is funny. There are some moments when you laugh, sometimes because it is actually funny, and sometimes because it is funny how copied and stupid it all is. Yet, no matter how funny it is, you cannot make a sequel that has exactly the same format as the first one.
