Review of The Hangover Part II (2011) by Nico B — 26 May 2013

WOW!

Okay, the movie did follow the formula of the first movie almost to the point of this being Hangover Part 1 in Bangkok. However as we learned in Scream 2, with sequels everything has to be more extreme and boy did they obey that rule. This is probably the most hard R rated comedy we have seen in along time if not ever. It appeared as if this was going to be a movie about the dark side of Allen as Galifianakis dominated the movie early, once he got on screen, but everyone had plenty of moments to shine. Bradley Cooper gives another good showing as the person who tries to find the logic in the middle of a total shit storm of confusion, but it is Ed Helms who steals this one as his character suffers more abuse and humility that would cause a lesser man to eat a bullet. Altough here was a brilliant scene where we get some insight into how Allen sees the world which explains a whole lot.

There were some spots that were kind of slow and that is my only criticism in comparison to Part 1, the pace and flow of that movie was near perfect. Yet it only takes one inappropraiate comment by Allen during a slow point and the movie is off and running again. I expect alot of people to not like this as much as the first just because of the extremes this movie goes to for a joke. I can't say it is better than the 1st, but I liked it as much and considering I went in with pretty high hopes and was not let down at all, thats a pretty good thing considering everyone involved with this could have mailed it in, taken the money and ran.
