Review of The Hangover Part II (2011) by Griffin B — 29 Mar 2014
Doesn't really work. But at the same time, I kind of admire this film in a way. It goes VERY far into the realm of dark comedy. So far that I think it was actually pretty ballsy on the part of the filmmakers.
Because it risks completely alienating the audience that enjoyed the first (which I think it did). But if that's true, and they were trying to do something different instead of just playing it safe, then why is this movie a carbon copy of the first film in so many other respects? The plot is the exact same thing with mostly just minor details changed.
Was that supposed to be part of the joke? I don't really know what they were going for. Basically, we're left with a film that might actually be edgier, more willing to take risks, and ultimately, perhaps, more interesting than its predecessor.
.. but unfortunately, it's also not as funny or as fresh.
