Review of The Guns of Navarone (1961) by Spencer L — 21 Feb 2009
What really sets this apart from other caper films is the richness of the characters. They are delineated not just by task (bombmaker, leader, etc.) but by how they have chosen to deal with war and the responsibility of making life or death decisions every day.
Great insights. Also notable for its climax, which is incredibly suspenseful even though the heroes are no longer in peril and mostly offscreen.
