Review of The Guns of Navarone (1961) by Allan C — 01 Jan 2013
I know this is supposed to be a classic, but I've never felt this film was on the same level as "The Dirty Dozen," "The Great Escape" or some of the other classic men-on-a-mission WWII films.
I even like second tier WWII films like "Operation Crossbow" or "Kelly's Heroes" better than this. It's not a bad film, but I think it's the stiff upper lip nature of the film that makes it more on the dull side for me.
Maybe if they had Lee Marvin or William Holden in the team it would seem like a tougher and more exciting of film.
