Review of The Guest (2014) by Carlos D — 21 Aug 2015
It was written and directed by the same people who did 2013's You're Next, so if you liked watching that movie, you are more than likely to have a fun time watching The Guest too. You're Next focused on bloody thrills, whereas The Guest is more about the story and characters.
If the filmmaker could take the best parts of these two films and somehow combine them, it'll be one hell of a movie. That is not to say I didn't have a good time watching the film, but I do wish the twist was somewhat more comprehensible and had a better ending.
I thought the performances were great, and it had interesting characters; it's very stylish and colorful and doesn't shy away from its inspirations (namely John Carpenter's 80s horror films).
The Guest is not terrible, but it's nothing outstanding. If you are a fan of thrillers, go for it.
