Review of The Guest (2014) by Sandeep N — 26 Dec 2014
I usually grade movies 1-10 in my head after I watch them. I don't really ever give 10s because that's ridiculous. Hardly anything is perfect. About 2/3 through this movie I started reaching for imperfections or anything that didn't make my dick hard.
In the end, I couldn't justify giving this movie a 9.5. I would be a total douche bag. I am convinced that my mind was infiltrated and studied for years in order to create a movie that was not only perfect in every way but solely made for my pleasure.
And I love this guy's style. It is unique and truly the type of ART that I appreciate. I'm not sure it would be fair to compare to any other director. I did however feel a touch of Richard Kelly, maybe because of the music throughout and some subtle recurring images and strange intangibles.
It was refreshingly genre-less. It is ART to me because I can see it wasn't constructed within any type of standard filmmaking parameters, yet there weren't any 'rules', per se, that were broken.
