Review of The Guest (2014) by Lewis E — 03 Jan 2015
One of the best things that came out of the 80s was their action movies and 'The Guest' is a fine throwback to this era. The premise, music, presentation and even its right-to-the-point title are certainly reminiscent of films like 'The Terminator' but they vitally kept the action up to date with its modern style of slick, brutal violence.
Dan Stephens proves he is not merely eye candy to the ladies by playing the creepy and intimidating 'guest' to strong effect, accomplishing the impressive feat of actually making this character likeable.
The reveal may not come out as clearly as audiences would have hoped while some of the choices made by characters at key moments may struggle to convince. Nevertheless, 'The Guest' doesn't dissapoint since it achieves a level of overall enjoyment which justifys the film's high ratings.
