Review of The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society (2018) by Chris T — 21 Apr 2018
This has a feel of Downton Abbey. Even where focusing on the life of a pig farmer in war time Guernsey, it is still a hopelessly romanticised vision, almost Mills and Boon. However, the film does well to convey something of what it must have felt to have lived through the Nazi occupation of the Island, and the characters are well portrayed.
The mysteries of the Islanders are not immediately apparent, and this unfolds slowly through the investigations of the central character, a frustrated writer. In terms of romance everyone ends up with exactly who you would expect, but the journey is a pleasant enough one all the same.
