Probably helpful not to have read the book, but to be able to judge the film on its merits. We loved it. Mature direction and excellent cast performances delver a gentle but deep literary experience to the big screen.

Paced like a novel and much of what is powerful is what isn't said. Very British and presents a full range of feelings and narrative colours. Highly recommended.
