Review of The Guard (2011) by Jean-Yves M — 15 Jan 2012
The McDonagh brothers. What a hit they are! Churning out delightful black Irish comedy and mixing in cultures of the Brits, Yanks, and Eastern Europeans. It's some more great acting by Brendan Gleeson after making In Bruges with Martin McDonagh, he turns around and partners up with John Michael of the same name to make The Guard.
I don't think Americans would find this funny at all, probably dismiss it as racial or cultural stereotyping, but it's well written, and uses simple profiling of cultures that we all know and recognize.
