Review of The Guard (2011) by Martin N — 11 Feb 2012
McDonagh's first turn as a director of a feature length film and he has made quite an impression. Good use of the camera; always in the right place, but never draws attention to itself. The only scene that didn't work for me is scene between the drug smugglers in a aquarium that had way to many jump cuts.
Another thing that annoyed me a little is Brendan Gleeson's character trying a bit to hard to be that "small town annoying cop". I know it is suppose to heighten the humour, but it also led to the suspension of disbelief - well at least for me.
Don Cheadle's character also wasn't given much to do. Different, but could have been so much better.
