Review of The Guard (2011) by Mike M — 05 Apr 2012
Filled with characters played out by a terrific cast, this is a funny film that makes the most of its surroundings.
Brendan Gleason is just perfect in this film, playing Gerry as a jaded cop who has bags of experience and knowledge that he very rarely uses. His inrteraction with the locals and his fellow cops are just hilarious and when he talkes a personal interest in a case you can see the sparks of what he used to be coming to the fore. He is really great. Then we have Cheadle turning up and matching his character in the no bullshit stakes, calling him on his behaviour etc, they make a terrific double act.
Overall, this is a memorable film because of the characters and the affection for the surroundings that the story is set in.
