Review of The Guard (2011) by Hugh D — 20 Mar 2015
The Guard is an innocently fun delight to watch. Gleeson plays the innocently racist and sexist officer who is direct, crass, and naive. With an appetite for great comedy and well meaning scenes, cultural differences are magnified and pointed at for great benefit.
It is an off-beat joy ride that has its flaws (villains with little substance on screen) but is enjoyable to watch. Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson share great on screen chemistry, and it really helps wrap this film into the package it is.
