Review of The Grudge (2004) by Richard R — 22 Aug 2013
It was different than the mainstream horror films at the time because it did have a distinctly Japanese feel. But was it scary? I think a lot of the supposed horror was dimmed by the fact that you see so much right from the start.
Sometimes the creepiest thing you can do is to not show everything. There are some genuinely disturbing moments and the story is told in an interesting way, but I think this movie suffered a lot from coming out AFTER the Ring.
