Review of The Groomsmen (2006) by Bill M — 24 Nov 2008
A very average flick going over the same themes and situations that have been done before. The story is unoriginal and the dialogue feels like it's been lifted straight out of other movies and borders on cheesiness and cliches at times.
However, the movie is saved by a pretty good soundtrack and the awesome cast. They may not be the cream of the crop but each one of them is likable and fun to watch. Edward Burns and Brittany Murphy bust out their usual schticks, Donal Logue plays more of a jackass this time around, Jay Mohr is obnoxious as hell, John Leguizamo does a slight variation of his usual roles and the rest of the supporting cast are decent for what they were given.
The standout, however, is Matthew Fucking Lillard. I've been a fan of this guy for a while now and the dude is just awesome in this. I don't totally buy him as a father but he just floats through the movie so naturally, you can't help but love it whenever he's onscreen.
Definitely worth a shot if you're a fan of any of the actors. I'm a fan of pretty much all of 'em so it was time well wasted.
