It's a film that's fun for little kids, people who can't handle how mean the original Grinch character was, or those who have never seen the original cartoon.
This Grinch comes across as just a cranky guy who has very weak motivations for stealing Christmas. He actually seems likable as a character while doing his scheming. Softening the Grinch's demeanor actually ruins the payoff of him changing his ways at the end of the story.
Also, what gives? We're given terrible semi-rap version of You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, and never a version closer to the original?
