Review of The Grinch (2018) by Catherine S — 03 Dec 2018
The Grinch, written by Dr. Seuss, and produced by Illumination Entertainment, carries on the same heart tugging storyline as the original 1966, and Jim Carrey's 2000 version. The main character "Grinch" struggles with abandonment growing up, and seeks for revenge once Christmas comes around, until he has a change of heart. The newest version, which was released November 9, 2018 added some new animation and amazing features, but what really stuck out was the soundtrack released, which really separates it from the other two versions, the music behind the movie really helps set the mood.
In the beginning of the movie, Pharrell Williams song "Happy" begins to play over the Grinch's radio, which is ironic, because the Grinch is not happy. The movie goes on with some original Christmas songs like, "Santa Claus is coming to town", "Jingle bells", and "A holly jolly Christmas", and follows up with Eric Carmen's song "All by myself" which is played by the Grinch, comically each song is placed in certain scenes in the movie for a laugh out of the audience. The newest song, "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" performed and produced by Tyler, the creator is definitely a mood changer, it sets a trippy tone which helps make you feel what the Grinch feels, very dull and low. And at the very end, once the Grinch changes his heart, the song "Boogie" performed by Brockhampton is played which is a very up beat, dance type song, which then changed the audience's mood to feel like the Grinch once he becomes happy.
Overall, I was very impressed, and highly recommend.
