The main characters here are each one desperate to survive and the sordid depths that they sink to is sometimes painful to watch. Annette Benning's sleaziness is cringe worthy while Angelica Houston's hard exterior gets chinked by moments of sentiment.
John Cusack's character is as cold as they come and harbours unnatural desires.... Twisted at times but makes compelling viewing.
