Review of The Green Mile (1999) by Jordan K — 02 Sep 2012

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Tom Hanks is my favorite actor and he hit the jackpot in his stellar acting in The Green Mile. Not only did he do excellent, but the performance of Michael Clarke Duncan was phenomenial. Both bring great emotion to their acting. If you thought that the acting was great, then let's go to the brilliant story:

Surprisingly, this is one of the few movies based off a non-horror Stephen King book. Set in 1935, Paul Edgecomb is a death row guard at Cold Mountain Penitentiary in Louisiana. If criminals aren't enough to deal with, all of his fellow employees hate the new guy, Percy. Sure, he sees inmates arrive every day, but one is particularly extraordinary, John Coffey ("Like the drink, but spelled differently."). John isn't crazy or mean- he wants to be friends with Paul. But it seems like it's magic when John suddenly fixes Paul's troubles with his bladder infection. A rat is also found in the prison who a prisoner named Del names "Mr. Jingles". Things get tougher for everyone, though, when a new prisoner nicknamed Wild Bill arrives and raises trouble for everyone. As John performs more and more miracles like bringing Mr. Jingles back to life, the employees think he can fix almost any situation, but they decide he should help the warden's wife, who has been having a brain tumor. Of course John fixes her later on but later gives Percy evil spirits, causing Percy to feel strange, kill Wild Bill, and eventually get sent to a mental hospital. Like all inmates, John is given the electric chair in a teary ending scene where he dies.

Like I said, it's a great movie witha great story and great acting. Usually I think Stephen King movies are all cheesy, like It and Carrie, but still this was a great movie that everyone should see. I think only one flaw was that it was around 3 hours long but still it was good movie that is very memorable.
