Review of The Green Mile (1999) by King M — 29 Mar 2013
The new Darabont adaptation of a Stephen King short story may not be as good as The Shawshank Redemption, but is still something worth watching. A feel good story with a hint of supernatural set during the Great Depression, it tells the tale of John Coffey, a man awaiting his death sentence on the Green Mile, and his impact on the life of the security guard played by Paul Edgecomb, as he tells the story in his old age.
The Green Mile looks beautiful and Darabont is able to build a lot of tension and encapsulate great emotional depth inside the small setting, however the film is a little too long for its own good, particularly its lengthy ending.
