Review of The Green Knight (2021) by Fvnfvnfvn — 11 May 2022
The Green Knight, while more inconsequential then some of its other sibling films from A24 is an interesting take on the Arthurian Legend of Sir Gawain. While on a sub-textual level this film speaks volumes about honor, courage and the duty of all people uphold their own moral codes that actual events of the movie seem quite scatter and vague.
From time to time I found myself questioning the wandering nature of this film as shuffled along on Gawain's quest. This however was punctuated by several moment in the film which felt real and impactful to the character of Gawain himself.
These are the real highlight of the film and feel more meaningful then set pieces they director is trying to show off. While I do appreciate how gorgeous this film is I think a little bit more care could have put towards the writing of the plot and how each thread of the film ties together in the its abrupt but heart felt climax.
This is definitely something you should watch if you have the spare time to do so.
