Review of The Green Knight (2021) by Unclewillard — 19 Aug 2021
I love the original, classic tale, and while this version pads it with what is not told in that, it sticks to the main plot at its core. It's a wonderfully stylized version of that, creating a world that oozes mythology.
The world built here seems to team with ghosts, tales, and the superstition of the time in which it's set. Gorgeous to look at, well-acted, and well-directed, I got lost in this world (barring the terrible cgi fox).
While it sticks to that original story, the added depth, especially near the end, reminds me of The Last Temptation of Christ. That's not a bad thing, though it is a tad unoriginal, and kinda mucks up the theme of the chivalric poem.
Still, this is something you won't often see in today's cinema and worth the time.
