Review of The Green Inferno (2013) by Greg B — 23 Sep 2015
"The Green Inferno" is a new age horror film about a group of humanitarian college students whose plane crashes in the Peruvian jungle, stranding them. An indigenous tribe of cannibals finds them and enslaves them.
The good things about this film are the entertainment value and the comedic element. Though the film is meant to be scary, it is so extremely campy that it presents as humorous, not scary. It is still gory by all means, and parts are nearly impossible to stomach, but the sheer over-the-top element of the plot makes the film thoroughly entertaining.
However, the film looks like it was shot on a low budget with cheap special effects, and some of the camera angles are awkward. The plot is under-developed, and the acting leaves much to be desired. The actors don't effectively convey the level of terror someone in that situation would face.
I found the film personally funny; others with weak stomachs may find it repulsive ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C+.
