Review of The Green Butchers (2003) by Merryn B — 29 Sep 2007
A quirky little gem of a film I picked up in Fona in Denmark. I am constantly impressed by Nikolaj Lie Kaas and his performance in this movie in the dual role of Bjarne/Eigil is nothing short of wondrous.
Mads Mikkelsen is delightfully creepy as the sociopathic and excessively sweaty Svend. It is refreshing to see a Danish film that doesn't take itself seriously and is unfettered by the austere restrictions of the Dogme manifesto.
A deliciously black take on the "tastes like chicken" joke. Riotously funny and sympathetic in turn this film could be one of the best films you may never see.
